RefWorks: Collaborate with your colleagues

This guide was developed for Canadian university students by Scholars Portal, a service of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL).

You can use RefShare to share your reference lists with anyone, including those outside your institution, or without a RefWorks account.

  1. To share a folder, click on the Organize & Share Folders tab from the main page.
  2. All of your folders will appear. Click the folder with the green arrow to share its contents.
  3. Once you've shared a folder, you can link to it, email it, or edit its properties. To unshare a folder, click on the folder with the figure inside. You can also share your entire database.
  4. In the edition box, you can name and describe your shared list, and decide just how much of it you would like to make available. It is up to your home institution to decide whether you may also share attachments.
  5. Note that in RefWorks 2.0, you must select "Site Defined OpenURL" for a link resolver to appear. This is a change from RefWorks Classic, when Site Defined OpenURL was the default. Many users have requested that this default be restored, and RefWorks U.S. is looking in to this.
